"Trades Column"
Bellingham Technical College, Bellingham Washington
Ries Niemi- Manmade
This is a project that I did for Bellingham Technical College in Bellingham Wa. It was commissioned by and paid for by the Washington State Arts Commission Public Arts Program. The sculpture is 30 feet tall, all 304 stainless steel. The circular section is 24" in diameter, with the horizontal rings made from 1 1/4" diameter round bar. The round bar was hot forged first, to give it the hammer texture, then rolled with my CP-40M. Many of the smaller parts, like the globe, or the rings were also rolled with the CP-40M from 3/8" round stainless. Each band shows a different department at the college- auto body, or machine shop, radiology tech, dental assistant, welding, etc. |
